Dream in Green is happy to announce that enrollment in the Green Schools Challenge is open for 2021-2022 as we celebrate our 15th Anniversary! Through this program we offer free online sustainability curriculum aligned with state standards and benchmarks, professional development training for all teachers enrolled and yearlong support from DIG staff for implementation. This program is open to all public, private, and charter schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe County.

The Green Schools Challenge program runs from September to April and schools start the year by creating a green team and develop an environmental pledge together. The Green Team will then conduct an environmental self-assessment checklist to see what “green” initiatives are currently in place and will then set a goal for the year. Throughout the year (from October through March) there are 6 topics and an activity for each that include Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Waste Reduction, Alternative Transportation, Green Living and Food Security. Teachers submit documentation for activities completed and earn points according to a rubric created for each. The activities come with a lesson plan and the aligning benchmarks. At the end of the year top scoring schools will be eligible to win prizes and awards for their accomplishments.

Participation in the Green Schools Challenge is voluntary but will give both students and teachers access to special incentives including grants and access to lessons and opportunities developed with partners including the Ocean Conservancy, the National Wildlife Federation, FIU, Live Arts Miami, and more. MDCPS schools can also earn points towards STEM/STEAM designation from the district. Join us for one of our upcoming workshops: Sept. 7th (in-person) registration for M-DCPS teachers available through My Learning Plan/Frontline Education platform for Master Plan Points or Sept. 11th (virtual) registration for all here.
