The LEEF Board met at Archbold Biological Station May 25-26 to work collaboratively to assess LEEF’s current status and create a path for the next year and beyond. Although the idea of a retreat sounds relaxing and refreshing, the board worked from early in the morning to late in the night to get its tasks completed. There just wasn’t much time left for a walk around the beautiful Archbold environs!
Since this was the first meeting for newly-elected board members, the returning members spent important time bringing everyone up to speed on the current LEEF status. Of course, the current status can’t be described without including the beginnings and history of LEEF to see how and why we are where we are at this point in our organizational story. All board members were introduced to or reminded of their responsibilities and expectations as their contribution to LEEF’s mission and vision.
The world is just too much with us these days to allow lots of folks more time to follow their passion for environmental education, so a major topic of discussion was how to create a board that could be more effective in a shorter amount of time and effort. The consensus of the board was to ask more LEEFers to do just a little so that no one person had too much to handle. This was the impetus as the board worked on the Five Year Strategic Plan. There will be more about the strategic plan coming soon along with your invitation to become part of LEEF’s expanded volunteer and leadership opportunities.
The board wants to assure you that it is working hard, knowing the decisions and priorities it makes impacts the entire organization. None of us take our roles lightly and we will do our best to lead us in our mission as we work towards our vision.
